Actions Speak Louder than Words
Lying on the soft big bed, beneath the bright window of the bedroom, was a little girl. A beam of sunlight, which is very bright, shining on her glossy hair, gave it a metallic luster, while one of her little hands was holding a fairytale book. Her beautiful big eyes, at one moment seemed black, at another brown, were shaded by long black lashes, curving backward in a most peculiar way. And she was just my lovely and cute niece. So absorbed was she in reading the book that she didn’t observe me when I went towards her.
“I told you many times not to read in the sun or when you lie on bed. It does no good to your eyes! You just turn a dear ear to what I said.” I pretended to be serious.
“Oh! Aunt, I am so glad you’re here!” She got up from the bed, come running and hugged me.
“Ok, Jimmy, don’t forget my words again, or someday you’ll have to wear a pair of reading glasses, which will cover your beautiful eyes and turn you into an ugly duckling!” I said to her with a kind of affection.
“But, aunt, I think wearing glasses is cool and I hope to wear a pair of glasses like you! People who wear glasses can always tell me a lot of stories and they know a lot of things. I want to be a member of them!” She answered with innocent big eyes wondering at me.
I knew that she wouldn’t listen to me. So, I decided to do something to change her childish thinking about wearing glasses.
The next day, with a pair of plain glass spectacles in hand, I ordered her: “Since you want to wear glasses very much, I send you one. However, you must wear it whenever but for bathing and sleeping.”
“Auntie, I love you so much!” She cried out in excitement and happiness. She wore it immediately and moved about in the room like a lively cat.
So fond of the glasses was she in the first several days that she was even not willing to take off it when sleeping. Nevertheless, after a week’s wearing the glasses every day, sometimes she asked to take it off for a while.
“No, when you are nearsighted, you’ll have to wear it everyday, because if you not, everything is just a blur in your eyes!” I made up my mind to teach her a good lesson.
Two weeks later, she became bored with the glasses and refused to wear it anymore.
“Aunt, wearing glasses is too troublesome! I will listen to you, to protect my eyes and I don’t want to wear glasses any longer!”
So, you see, actions speak louder than words. But if your action is late, maybe a good pair of glasses is better.
